Michelin Three Starred Chefs Régis Marcon and Daniel Boulud Join Forces in the Kitchen at Restaurant DANIEL

One hundred and sixty philanthropic New Yorkers indulged in an exquisite, truffle-themed, late-winter menu at three Michelin-starred restaurant DANIEL this evening – raising $828,000 to support Citymeals-on-Wheels in its mission to provide a continuous lifeline of nutritious food and human company to 18,000 of the city’s homebound elderly.

This year’s elegant, yet casual Sunday Supper, called “Burgundy, Black Truffles and Blue Jeans,” was spearheaded by the world-renowned Chef Daniel Boulud, who also serves as Co-President of the Citymeals Board of Directors. Tonight’s Supper marked the 16th anniversary of the Sunday Supper at DANIEL.

Also joining Chef Boulud in the kitchen were Chef Marcon’s sons, Chef Jacques Marcon and Chef Paul Marcon.

The evening’s menu featured layered foie gras, duck prosciutto and smoked trout with hibiscus gelée; Shigoku oyster with sea urchin royale, osetra caviar; endive custard with black truffle and hazelnut;  truffle chaud froid, Jerusalem artichokes, sweet and sour lobster with pine tree spices; black truffle stuffed dover sole, glazed celery, salsify and sauce Perigueux; roasted loin venison with black truffles, braised shoulder ravioli with winter root casserole, and banana spring rolls with caramel morels, among many other delicacies. Each course was paired with fine Burgundy vintages chosen by Raj Vaidya, Head Sommelier at DANIEL.

“The annual Sunday Supper at DANIEL is something I look forward to year after year—it gives me great joy to host it at my restaurant and be able to provide a place for loyal Citymeals supporters to come together and fundraise for a common cause,” said Chef Boulud. “This year I was joined in the kitchen by an outstanding chef and friend, Régis Marcon, visiting from France. When I asked Régis to cook with me his response was a resounding ‘OUI,’ and I know guests were delighted by the dishes he created.

“Special thanks also go to our donors; from wine partners and food suppliers to industry peers and friends from around the world, all of whom help me achieve my goal of supporting Citymeals. I’m in a position to cook for many privileged New Yorkers who have become incredibly loyal patrons over the last 30 years. Thanks to their support and my partnership with Citymeals, we can work to feed many forgotten New Yorkers, the frail aged who have helped make the city we know today and who so deserve our respect and generosity,” Chef Boulud added.

Among the dinner guests and supporters were co-founder of Citymeals and Board Chair Gael Greene; Board Vice President and event Co-Chair Bob Grimes; Board Members Daniel Bartfeld, Aliyyah Baylor, Albert Behler, Anne Cohen, Joseph Cohen, Suri Kasirer, Michael Lynne, Jimmy Nicholas, Drew Nieporent, Roxann Taylor and Lillian Vernon; event Vice Chairs Philippe Laffont and Ernie Thrasher; Al Roker and Deborah Roberts; Chuck Close; and Chef Cesare Casella.

Nicholas Lowry, President of Swann Auction Galleries, served as this year’s auctioneer.

The evening included silent and live auctions of rare and large format wines and one-of-a-kind travel and dining experiences. Highlights included dinner for 16 at the Bouley Test Kitchen with Chef Boulud and Chef David Bouley preparing a mouth-watering meal paired with the greatest wines of France, compliments of Edward and Howard Milstein, which sold for a record-breaking $250,000. Another top-selling item was a luxurious Parisian getaway with exclusive gourmet excursions including dinner for the lucky bidder in the home of Betsy and Michel Bernardaud. The auction item, which sold for $40,000, also includes travel to the Lyon region and stays in extravagant hotels and meals in exquisite venues throughout Paris and Lyon.

Official sponsors were American Airlines and FIJI Water. Auction donors included longtime supporters Panerai, Lalique, Hôtel Le Bristol Paris and The Dalmore.
